The calculator supports both imperial and metric units: distance in miles or kilometers, fuel efficiency in miles per gallon (MPG) or kilometers per liter (km/L), speed in miles per hour (mph) or kilometers per hour (km/h), and fuel cost per gallon or per liter, making it suitable for users in the US, UK, Europe, and other international markets.
Fuel cost is calculated using the formula Fuel Cost = (Distance ÷ Fuel Efficiency) × Fuel Cost per Unit, and for example, if you drive 300 miles, your vehicle gets 30 MPG, and fuel costs $4/gallon, your fuel cost would be $40.
Labor cost is based on the total driving time and the driver’s hourly wage, calculated as Labor Cost = (Distance ÷ Average Speed) × Driver’s Wage per Hour, and for instance, driving 300 miles at 60 mph takes 5 hours, so at $20/hour, labor cost equals $100.
Vehicle maintenance cost accounts for wear and tear on the vehicle per unit of distance traveled (per mile or km), including tire wear, oil changes, brake servicing, and general upkeep, calculated as Maintenance Cost = Distance × Maintenance Cost per Mile/km, with industry averages in the US typically ranging from $0.08 to $0.15 per mile for commercial vehicles.
